Addressing the sustainable energy crisis in an objective manner, this enlightening book analyzes the relevant numbers and organizes a plan for change on both a personal level and an international scale—for Europe, the United States, and the world. In case study format, this informative reference answers questions surrounding nuclear energy, the potential of sustainable fossil fuels, and the possibilities of sharing renewable power with foreign countries. While underlining the difficulty of minimizing consumption, the tone remains positive as it debunks misinformation and clearly explains the calculations of expenditure per person to encourage people to make individual changes that will benefit the world at large.

More About Sustainable Energy - Without the Hot Air
This heated (environmental) debate is fundamentally about numbers. How much energy could each source deliver, at what economic and social cost, and with what risks? But actual numbers are rarely mentioned. In public debates, people just say Nuclear is a money pit or We have a huge amount of wave and wind. The trouble with this sort of language is that its not sufficient to know that something is huge: we need to know how the one huge compares with another huge, namely our huge energy consumption. To make this comparison, we need numbers, not adjectives....
This book attempts to answer the following questions: could Britain supply its own renewable energy? If so, how? If not, what viable options exist?Even coming from a North American perspective, I was amazed at the scope, detail, and (somehow) simplicity of this book. Although many of the heating efficiency improvements aren't applicable... If you ever wanted to know what it would actually look like for us to obtain all of our energy sustainably, this is a must read. It is a little dry, and in the appendix, even gets into some hard core physics calculations, but it is very well researched and it is free on the author's website. This book is a thorough and detailed analysis of the UK's energy needs and how they could be met by alternatives to fossil fuels. I have to admit I skimmed through a lot of it, but as a reference it will be invaluable, being packed with all the facts and figures you could wish for. I can see myself returning to it in the future when...
