This is a heartbreaking story, but it didn't knock my socks off. I think part of the lack of mind-blowing effectiveness was that all the text is written in cursive, which, while lovely, made it harder to read. I once heard of a study where the subjects were giving recipes to make and then rate for easiest. People rated the same recipe... Fresh and raw. A bildungsroman in black & white. Sad and hopeful at the same time. Beautiful, clean, exquisite drawings. Can relate to crazy dysfunctional family! I am so sad to learn that the author passed away last year. She was also a musician and I'll be listening to her music and looking for more of her art work.
